Exploring the Future of AI-Generated Content: My Experience with Google’s NotebookLM

In the Fall of 2021, we released The Buyer’s Engagement Journey—an eBook and workbook that delves into the evolving relationship between buyers and businesses. Recently, I revisited this content, not to update it, but to see how AI might handle it. Specifically, I tested Google’s NotebookLM, a tool designed to synthesize large amounts of information into digestible formats. And I was curious—how well could it summarize a 56-page eBook including a workbook, into something engaging and concise?

The Buyers Engagement Journey, from NotebookLM's perspective

I was blown away by the result. NotebookLM generated an 8-minute audio file that feels like a podcast, with two hosts casually discussing the key takeaways of the book. They weren’t just reading from a script—it sounded natural, complete with human stumbles and even some talking over each other, giving it an authentic feel.

What stood out to me, as someone who co-authored the original book, was its ability to condense the core insights into something digestible, while keeping the spirit of the content alive.

While I didn’t set out to use this tool to drive downloads of the eBook, I wouldn’t be surprised if people listening to the summary are intrigued enough to want to dive into the full content. If you’re curious about the AI’s summary—or want to compare it to the original content—you can grab a copy of The Buyer’s Engagement Journey here.

This experiment with NotebookLM reinforced the potential of AI tools in the content world. It’s not just about summarizing information; it’s about making it accessible and engaging, even in formats like podcasts. I’m excited to see where this technology goes next, and how it might change the way we consume and share knowledge.

Please note, I added the images to the video file so you could hear the podcast output with some visual cues, and because when I posted this on LinkedIn, it won’t let me upload an audio only file.
