It’s been an incredibly long year and with Valentine’s Day approaching it reminds me of how important being connected really is.
Now more than ever is the time to connect with friends and loved ones, and what better way to do that than with a handwritten letter.
A letter can make you feel something, it speaks to you, you can touch it. It’s as personal as you can get without being there in person. It’s your written word that becomes something that one can hold onto and reflect upon, forever.
Here are some of my favourite letters from not-so-everyday people, expressing their love for one another.
Jimi Hendrix to a girlfriend
Johnny Cash to his wife June
Britney Spears to her LGBTQ fans
Gerald Ford to his wife Betty
Madonna to her fans
Beethoven to his “Immortal Beloved”
“Though still in bed, my thoughts go out to you, my Immortal Beloved. Be calm–love me–today–yesterday–what tearful longings for you–you–you–my life–my all–farewell. Oh continue to love me–never misjudge the most faithful heart of your beloved. Ever thine. Ever mine. Ever ours.”
